PALMERSTON CRICKETERS LABT MAN IN AT BTUMPB HARD STAFF DROPS VIT AL CATCH (By Telegraph— Press Association) PALMERSTON N., Wednesday The Minor Associations team narrowly escaped from an innings’ defeat at the hands of Sir Julien Cahn’s XL to-day. The home team, batting J2 men. compiled 20G and 119 for ten wickets, while the visitors scored 418 runs. sir Julien played in this match and he bowled the last over, Pritchard hitting a ball to Hardstaff, who dropped it. HardstafTs 160 was a real batsman's innings and he played some attractive shots when he was well set. Another Poor Start The visitors’ innings closed for 418 and Minor Associations were left with the task of keep their innings alive for two hours and 10 minutes. With three wickets down for seven, the home team made a disastrous start. Four more were down with the addition of only 30 runs and the position was desperate. Then Peterson, of Wairnrapa, Gallichan and Norris all made invaluable stands, and when stumps were drawn there was still one wicket in hand.
