Swordfish Landed Another fairly heavy swordfish has been landed at Mayor Island. The captor was Mr James L. Gilliam, of Portland, Oregon, U.S.A., and the fish weighed 3251 b. The angler took 45 minutes to bring his quarry to the boat. Shot in the Act Of particular interest to anglers is a mounted specimen of the common black shag, on display in a Hamilton sports depot at present. The point of interest lies in the fact that the bird was shot in the act of swallowing a rainbow trout weighing lib. soz. and the specimen lias been mounted j-ust as it was shot, with the tail of the fish sticking out of its mouth. The trophy was secured on the Waikato River near lluka Falls, being shot by Mr Alan Pye. Still In Doubt As a result of an appeal by the skipper of the Australian yacht Tarec, Mr W. Swinbourne, against the disqualification of his boat in the third race, the world’s 18-fooler sailing championship is again in doubt. The appeal will probably be referred to the Yacht Racing Association of England and a decision will be known in February. 19 in. The Mayor *ol‘ Auckland. Sir Ernest Davis, lias presented a trophy known as the Captain Cook Memorial Trophy Ur inter-colonial sailing competition between New Z.*aland and New South Wales. For the first year the trophy will be held by either Tarec or the Auckland boat Manu, whichever one is successful when llie decision of the appeal is announced.
