PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY
MEETING IN HAMILTON Successful year reviewed The annual meeting of fhp Hamilton Philharmonic Society was held in their new practice rooms, the hall of the Hamilton Citizens’ Band, last evening. Mr .1. W. Hardman presided over a large gathering of the choir. Although the year was a most difficult one. according to the annual report, splendid work was accomplished musically, financially and socially. The Hamilton Male Choir joined up with the society and several concerts were held and proved outstanding successes. At the beginning of December the society presented Handel's “Messiah" In St. Paul’s Methodist Church, and Jt was well received by a large audience. Concerts were given at the Waikeria Borstal Institute and the Waikato Hospital. Several members ..f the societv Journeyed to Wellington and listed in the presentation of the “Messiah’’ by the combined choirs of the Wellington Choral Union and the Auckland Ch « *] Society. The following officers were elected: Patron. Mr 11. D. Caro; president. Mr K. R. Smith; vice-president?, Messrs H. J. Ferguson. E. O. Ainoore. F. H Mason; secretary. Mrs A. C. Winter; treasurer. Mrs M. Garner; librarian. Miss M. S liter; pi in st, Mss M. Salter; committee, Mesdames U. Roniiar, E. R. Smith. 11. Stimson. Miss A. Campbell, Messrs G. Ellis. G. Wheeler, J. Hardman, A. G. Taylor; conductor, Mr G. Owen Jones; auditor, Mr A. C. Winter. When sweeping carpets always remember to sweep the way of the grain. To brush the wrong way is not only bad for the carpet, but tends to brush the dirt in instead of out.
