CONVERSION OF TRUCK r (By Telegraph—Press Association) WHAKATANE, Monday A Maori labourer, August Rore. of Paroa, appeared in the Whakatane Police Court this morning before Messrs G. A. Brabant and J. G. Cliff McCulloch. J’s.P., charged with converting a motor truck and with driving while in a state of intoxication. Constable T. J. Cummings said the owner of the truck had left It parked in the centre of Whakatane. Rore removed it and drove to Paroa. Later in the day he was to Whakatane when he was seen by the owner, who made him drive the vehicle to his residence. While the owner was away from the truck Rore commandeered it again and drove off at a fast speed, crashing through the approach of the Whakatane Bridge and doing about £SO worth of damage to the truck. Constable Cummings said that accused had been before the Court on a similar charge in October. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on each charge, the terms to he cumulative.
