VERDICT OF SUICIDE

ELDERLY MAN’S DEATH HAMILTON EAST TRAGEDY An inquest into the death of James Andrew Robertson (72) an old-age pensioner of 15 Dey Street, Hamilton East who was found in bed with his throat cut yesterday morning was held before the coroner, Mr F. W. Platts, yesterday afternoon. Evidence of identification was given by Francis John Dixon, a labourer, of the same address, who stated that yesterday morning lie heard groans coming from the room occupied by Robertson. Witness tried to enter the room but the door was fastened, and on looking through the window he sawdeceased lying in bed. His right arm and the clothes were covered with blood. Witness telephoned Dr. T. C. Fraser, who found Robertson in a serious condition and ordered him to hospital. The injured man died as he was being taken out to the ambulance. Deceased was always complaining about his health. Dr. K. P. L. MacGregor, of the Waikato Hospital, gave evidence of having examined deceased on arrival. The coroner returned a verdict that deceased committed suicide while temporarily of unsound mind.
