Dual Voting Charge
It is a very serious offence and hits at the basis of democratic government, said Mr Justice Reed, in the Supreme Court at New Plymouth yesterday in sentencing: Percy Allen, of New Plymouth, to six months’ imprisonment for dual voting. On election day, Allen, who had been drinking heavily, voted at the Courthouse and at the Methodist Hall, but he t stated he had no recollection of voting at the Courthouse. “It is difficult to detect this offence, and under the circumstances cannot be passed over.” Safety Zone Proposal The secretary of the Te Rapa School Committee made a request to the Waipa County Council at its meeting yesterday that arrangements ho made for the placing of a safety zone on Hie Great South Road opposite the main entrance to the Te Rapa School grounds. It' was decided by the council to make a recommendation to the Main Highways Board that the work be carried out and that a notice be erected indicating the position of the zone.
