PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL (Special to Times.) TE AROHA, Monday. j The Piako County Cuuncil met to-day, j Mr W. C. Kennedy presiding-. In a letter from the Minister or Public J Works to Mr \v. S. Goosman. M.P., a copy ; of which was before the council. ! the Minister stated in regard to , the Piako-iti Valley Road (Piako County) to Morgan’s Road (Matamata County; that the position appeared to be ; that while the Piako Council supported the proposal, the Matamata Council ap- 1 peared to take an unfavourable view or ; the matter and would not assist by sup- i porting the proposal. The most the Min- j lster could do would be to obtain a re- ; port with a view to ascertaining whether ' there were any fresh developments since ; the matter was last reviewed. When tills ; was received with all available details it would be included for consideration in respect of Public Works Estimates. Burnett, ex M.P.. | Tauranga, for his services to the county j portion of the electorate during the term i he was its Parliamentary representative | An application, accompanied by photo- ■ graphs, for employment by the council, was received from Rajk Sandor, or Budapest. The applicant enumerated his credentials in engineering, especially with regard to asphalt and tarred road work, and expressed his desire to take up similar work In New Zealand. As at present the council has no vacancy in its stall’, the applicant will be informed accordingly. The application will be filed for future reference. FITNESS WEEK RESULTS OF SPORTS MEETING Te Aroha opened its Fitness Week pro- ■ gramme on Saturday arternoon witii a grand parade through the principal streets . in which the Municipal and Pipe Bands, j Boy Scouts, Ambulance Brigade and cyclists took part, followed by a sports gathering at Berries Memorial~Pnrk. There , was a large attendance of the public, the Te Aroha Cycling Club and Caledonian Society co-operating in the general ur- ( rangements. Keen contests were witnessed in both ' the cycling events. The Stockdale Cup ! for the greatest number of points regis- i tered by a local cyclist on the day was ' won by W. Kingsrord (Waihi) with 12 points.
