AN END TO CONCESSIONS
FOREIGN POLICY OF BRITAIN CLOSER RELATIONS WITH RUSSIA POSSIBLE STRONGER STAND WITH GERMANY AND ITALY (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Feb. 20, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 19 The Sunday Express says the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons has decided that the period of concessions to Germany and Italy has ended. The committee reached this decision after a private address from Viscount Halifax, who is reported to have advocated that Britain take a stronger line in dealing with the units of the German-Italian-Japanese axis.
He spoke of Britain’s willingness to recognise the advantages of an approchement with Russia. It is believed that the bombing of Minorca during the negotiations for its surrender had a profound influence on Mr Chamberlain’s attitude.
