OVERSEAS VISITORS

TRIP TO NQARUAWAHIA AMERICAN EXPEDITION MEMBERS Many visitors were welcomed at Ngaruawahla yesterday by Princess Te Puea Herangi when eight members of the Lerner Scientific Expedition from the United States, 60 members of the Auckland branch of the Overseas League and 80 members of the anthropological section of the Auckland War Memorial Museum visited the Ngaruawahia Pa. The visitors were first entertained at luncheon, prepared in the Maori fashion, then taken round the dairy farm and later entertained with Maori songs, hakas and poi dances at the pa. An address of welcome in Maori was delivered by the Rev. M. Keepa, replies being given by Dr. W. K. Gregory, of the American party, Mr F. O. V. Acheson. of the Overseas League, and Messrs G. Archer and M. G. Lee, o*. the Auckland Museum. Afternoon tea was served In the meeting-house, Mahinerangi, the house of King Koroki being also inspected, in addition to the canoes being built for the Centennial. Commenting on his impressions of the pa, the leader of the American expedition, Mr M. Lerner, said he was greatly impressed with the splendid work being done by Princess Te Puea for the people of her race and by the harmony and mutual respect between Maori and pakeha.
