DRUNK AT RACES

BAD LANGUAGE IN BUS LAB OURER C ONVIGT ED Drunkenness and the abuse of a police constable in a crowded bus after the Te Rapa races on Saturday led to Jack Victor Bravo (28), a labourer, of Frankton, being convicted by Messrs G. K. Sinclair and S. N. Ziman, J’s.P. in the Police Court, Hamilton, to-day. On a charge of being drunk, Bravo was convicted and discharged while a fine of £i was imposed for the use of obscene language.

In prosecuting, Senior Sergeant G. H. Lambert said Bravo was returning to town from the race-course when he used obscene language in a bus. Constable Richardson was in plain clothes but the accused recognised him as a policeman and abused him. The language annoyed the passengers and the bus driver had occasion to speak to Bravo whereupon the accused became abusive towards the driver.

“There is no doubt,” said the SeniorSergeant, “that he had been imbibing too freely all day and he apparently became unbalanced.” Bravo had not been before the Court before and he had been with the same employer for 15 years.
