CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL SCENIC tmiVE PROJECT (Special to Times) MORRINSVILLE, Friday The Morrinsville Borough Council’s proposal to acquire about 2£ acres of land adjacent to the Recreation Ground for the purpose of linking up reserves on the banks of the Waitakaruru Stream and making a Centennial drive was endorsed at a public meeting convened by the Mayor, Mr W. Hetherington, last evening. The Mayor explained that <pn a population basis Morrinsville was entitled to a subsidy of £2OO from the Government towards its Centennial memorial schemes, provided the citizens raised at least £6OO. The land could now be bought at a reasonable price, and it contained a large amount of native bush. - Suitable gates would be erected in Studholme Street at the entrance to the proposed Centennial Drive. Mr E. W. Massey, president of the Morrinsville Beautifying Society, offered a donation of £lO from the society towards the cost of purchasing the land. A Morrinsvile District Centennial Committee consisting of two representatives of the organisations chiefly interested was set up to co-operate with representatives of the Morrinsville Borough Council and Piako County Council. Members appointed are as follows: Messrs \Y. J. Aitken, A. A. Fench, E. Hitchman, J. W. Thompson, J. M. Allen. M.P., W. S. Goosman, M.P., J. R. Kelly, M. G. Philpott. A. G. Strahan. C. C. McLeod, E. Gummer, R. E. Scott, with power to add. A meeting of the committee will be held next week to go into ways and means of raising the money needed for carrying out the Centennial Drive scheme.
