LONDON MARKET STEADY BETTER THAN LAST YEAR (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Saturday Advices from London state that steady prices are ruling for butter. Tile Value of choicest salted New Zealand at 122 s per cwt. is the same as that ruling a week ago. The market is quiet. Although the current price is still 2s 3d per cwt. below the guaranteed price equivalent of 124 s 3d, the quotation a year ago was only 113 s per cwt. A Press Association message sent from London on Thursday states that Australian salted butter also is unchanged at 119 s, with Danish at 1445. The market for cheese is slow. Prices for New Zealand, white and coloured, remain at 66s and 66s 6d per cwt. Recent quotations and those of a \ ear ago compare as follows: — Feb. 17 Feb. 10 Feb. 18 1939 1939 193 S
The present price of 122 s is equal to approximately 14.61 d per lb., f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d per lb., f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d per cwt. T’he equivalent price of cheese is about 7.51 d per lb., f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d.
