GREEK MARATHON

Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 9 Greece is planning an international running race in October from Marathon to Athens to coincide with the anniversary of Pheidippides’ run. Greece intends to hold this marathon every two years and invite Olympic and European national Marthon winners to compete. In 490 B.C. Pheidippides, a Greek soldier, ran some 26 miles from the plain of Marathon to Athons, to announce the Greek victory at Marathon over the Persians. He fell dead after delivering his message.
