INCIDENT ON THE MARIPOSA STRONG PROTEST MADE APOLOGY BY A PASSENGER (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) HONOLULU, Feb. 16 A formal protest was lodged to-day with the United States Government by oflioers and crew of the liner Mariposa. It is revealed that a round-trip passenger, Mr G. Annesley, at a function on the vessel last night deliberately set Are to an American flag. The crew protested to the captain, and thereupon Mr Annesley was confined to his state-room. Australian and New Zealand passengers apologised to the captain and Mr Annesley to-day also apologised to him. Mr Annesley is a landowner of Irish extraction, who resides in London.
