HAMILTON CAMPAIGN PUBLIO SUPPORT Nil DID MR H. D. CAEO’S APPEAL The need for the public to sUjmZ behind the committee responsible for the arrangements in connection withj Physical Fitness Week and to give their co-operation in every way po»-| sible was stressed by the Mayor, MrJ H. D. Caro, to a Waikato Times re-, presentative this morning. In the first place, the campaign was designed in the interests of the future' well-being of the people as a whole, 1 and it was hoped that they would respond and do their part in making the week a success. ‘‘lt is essential for the public of Hamilton to realise that they 6houldf not only support Physical Fitness Week themselves, but they should use every effort to see that their children take part in the proceedings,’* said Mr Caro. ‘‘This is the first lima in Hamilton that a campaign of this nature has been attempted on such comprehensive lines and it is to be be hoped that the efforts of the com- , mittee, which has left no stone unturned, will not be in vain. There is no reason why a town the size of* Hamilton should not make Just ixood a showing as any of the larger! centres. • Donations of Trophies “The co-operation of all the primary schools has been assured, and it hi i pleasing to see that a number of oltM zens have given material assistance by donating trophies for the sports events. The Hamilton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club has also shown a generous attitude in connection with the sports meeting and the members are taking part, not for the trophies, but purely for the sport of the thing. The profits, if any, will be devoted by the committee towards helping all organisations whose aim it is to keep the youth of the district fit. “The people will, therefore, realise that in an undertaking of this nature
their full support is needed by the committee to ensure the success that such a campaign deserves,” said Mr Caro. “The borough engineering staff has given its services to try to make the event a real carnival, and other offers have been received from public-minded citizens. Arrangements for the campaign In Hamilton are complete and all that remains is for the public to take an active interest in the proceedings.”
