A “WHITE" CHRISTMAS

We had a "white" Christmas this year, which means that we had plenty of snow. Last year we were in the country and we w’ent for a walk in a nearby wood. All the trees stood straight up with their snow’-covered branches nearly touching- the sky. An occasional chirp of a robin could also be heard and the breaking of the snow-laden branches. Do you have much snow in New Zealand? We usually have snow at Christmas but we have not had it for the last throe years. Did I ever tell you about our country house at Crawford? Crawford itself is a beautiful little village nestling among the Lomarkshire Hills. Quite near is situated the village of Leadhills, and as may be seen by the name the industry to be found here is lead. Gold was also found In a stream quite near our house and was made into a ring for Queen Victoria. There is a lovely little burn which trickles down the hill at the back of our house and in it we sail our boats, although I am past that stage now. Still, my sister still loves it. We sometimes bathe in the River Clyde, which flowes around the village, but there are many dangerous pools in parts of it. We have a lovely golf course in our village and many competitions are held there.
