HAMILTON OPERATIC
GETTING READY FOR SEASON THE NEW PRODUCTION The committee of the Hamilton Operatic Society is busily preparing for the new season. The annual meeting of members will be held on March 6, and it is hoped to start work on a production very soon afterwards. Amongst the pieces being considered is “A Runaway Girl,” which was staged Unfortunately, despite"tlic huge success of "The Vagabond King” last year, with a performance of which members and townspeople were justifiably proud (it was generally admitted that it was even superior to the production of the larger Auckland Society , large attendances of the public, and record door takings, the production was so expensive that it resulted in a financial loss. This was regrettable, but perhaps hardly surprising with such a spectacular opera. A meeting of instrumentalists will be called fur February 28, with the object
of forming an orchestral branch of the society. It is felt- that there are many players in the town who would gladly join such a branch and thus be of great help to the society. Members of the society are very eager to get back into work, and t-here is no reason why a production should not be in full operation within the next few weeks.
