MODERNISING NO. 10
Mrs Neville Chamberlain has made a complete transformation in the oldfashioned “best bedroom” at No. 10 Downing Street. Up till now, Prime Ministers and t.heir wives have shared a pink-papered room with brass bedsteads and Victorian mahogany, but. in future, they will have an attractive modern apartment with wails painted a restful pale green. The woodwork and ceiling are cream, and the twin divans are fitted with ends of light weathered oak. Mrs Chamberlain has chosen the prettiest glazed chintz for the bedspreads. and curtains, with a pattern of red and yellow flowers on a pal* green ground. The ornamental pottery and the early morning tea s<*at are in a soft jade colour to match. too. After their “first cup.” Mr and Mrs Chamberlain go out for a walk round St. James’s Park before breakfast, unless the weather is particularly bad. The Premier likes to watch the bird life there, for ornithology is his chief hobby.
