Conducted under the auspices of the Hamilton Photographic Society. Superintendents: Mrs. H. D. Cobb, Messrs. H. D. Cobb and E. A. Butt. ENTRIES CLOSE SATURDAY, MAY 6th, 1939. Address all exhibits to this section as follows: SUPERINTENDENT, PHOTOGRAPHIC SECTION, WAIKATO WINTER SHOW, HAMILTON. All Photographs must be handed in by Saturday, May 27th, 1939. All Exhibits to be bona fide work of Exhibitor, except where otherwise stated, and confined to New Zealand subjects only. The attention of professional and amateur photographers is drawn to the special classes provided in the schedule for a variety of photographic studies. Twenty-five classes are included and are designed with the object of encouraging New Zealand photographers to produce the class of picture required for ornamental purposes or for reproduction by modern illustrated journals. There is a good marxet available in the press of New Zealand for work of artistic mer»o and topical interest. It is hoped that the classes will prove a means of discovering unrecognised talent among those who make a hobby of camera work, while an opportunity is afforded professionals of further enhancing their reputations. There are many photographers with international reputations who first became known through exhibiting their early efforts at such competitions as those organised by the Waikato Winter Show Association. All other countries are familiar with and acknowledge the high quality of New Zealand’s photographic work, but the opinion is held that even a higher standard can be reached. The Waikato Winter Show Association desires to help on this progressive movement. For outdoor work the wonderful climate of New Zealand offers splendid opportunities while the best time of the year, the Autumn, is available in which to recapture the beauty of the countryside, landscapes, seascapes, human figures and farm, station or bush life scenes are among the subjects which may be exploited.
