CHILDREN’S SHOE STANDARDS

Final arrangements for a survey of children's l'eet in the four centres, embracing the primary and secondary schools, so that standards may he laid down for lasts for children’s shoes, have been made by the footwear committee of the New Zealand Footwear Manufacturers’ Association. The survey will be made by -school medical officers and will cover children from the age of five to those in their teens.
The information obtained will be used to lay down standards for lasts from whicii shoes will be made permitting children’s feet to grow normally. This is the first time that such a survey has been carried out in New Zealand. The association’s object is to fit children with shoes which will eliminate the fool ailments prevalent among older persons. Certain data will be gathered from rural districts and schools outside the cities as well, so that the information obtained will be representative of the Dominion.
