TE RAPA GALLOPS
THE FINAL WORK-OUTS
RESPECTFUL OVER A ROUND NGAWIRI'S SMART HALF-MILE (By “Martian'*) There was considerable activity at To Rapa this morning when the Anal trials of horses engaged at the approaching meeting on Saturday and Monday took place over GO feet out from the rails on the course proper. The going was fast and though much useful work was accomplished the times did not appear exceptional on account of the extra ground covered. The best efforts of the morning were those of Respectful over a round, Forest Acre over seven furlongs, Calorie over six and Ngawiri over ha>f-a-mile. Rollicker also shaped well over seven furlongs while, on the plough, Cheval de Yolee impressed over a round. The first to work was S. G. Lind•say’s charge, Rival Peters', who was not bustled to come home from the five-furlong peg in f. 14 1-5. The Yaals three-year-old looks benefited from his racing at the Rotorua meet-
Rollicker (Goulsbro) jumped off at the seven-furlong barrier and after cutting out his initial quarter in 2 is, and the half-mile in ols, was easing up over the stages to record J. 35. Rollicker is bearing a healthy appearance and is none the worse for recent, racing. He is not engaged on the tirst day hut may he produced among the sprinters on the utter day of the local fixture. Coronation over a Round
Forest Lake '.lollop was of littic use to Coronation Farrell the concluding stages of u round in 2.9*. tl'eir lirst half-mile in 34 4-ss. Coi’onation. who won at his last start at Pahiatua, impressed by the manner m which he was revelling in his work and gave the impression that he could have appreciably improved on the time. He should have prospects In the Hack Cup here the se :cnd day. Silver Eagle ,'Peters), another of Lindsay's string, recorded 1.14 for an easy five furlongs. The Bronze Eagle ■gelding, who won on the hrsl day at Arawa Park, will lack nothing on the score of condition for his engagement in the Linley Hack on Saturday.
Beau Repaire McKenzie)" and Olympus (Goulsbro , after going fast over the early part, were under a strong hold in the straight tft register 50s for half-a-mile. A solid effort o\er seven furl ngs was credited to Forest Acre 'iollop , who rain* home alone in 1.33 i-s>. requiring 52 1-3* for his ini ini lnltmile. Forest Acre is apparently more solid now and is thriving on the racing he has had of late. A Useful Half-mile A useful half-mile was that of Water Fox (Jones and Midland .Gilmer) who were associated together in 52 4-ss. Both shaped well and are on thp upgrade. Adversity 'Rnsor) traversed six furlongs in 1.23 1-0. Trig Station 'Thomson) was clear of Friskland (Midwood) over the concluding stages of half-a-mile in 5-is. Trig Station is a maiden attached to R. Cotter’s string and lias been evincing marked promise in his recent trials.
Tosh (Gilmer) was not bustled at any stage of half-a-inilc in r»9s. He looked none tho worse for his race at Rotorua on Monday. Scnacre and a Colossus colt came home the final three furlongs of half-a-mile in 38 4-os. Miss Clipper ; Gilmer) finished a length in front of Wvndora (Jones) over the deciding stages of half-a-mile in 52As, a pleasing effort for horses of their class. Meadow Midwood) and Bronze Step (Tremain were companions over half-a-mile in 53 4-ss. Both did their work well.
Lornacre 'McLaughlin' was shading Rosemay (Thomson; at the end of a smartly-run three furlongs in 37 l-ss. Lornacre appears to be on the improve. Respectful Shapes Well Respectful (McLaughlin) was associated over a round with Kittle (Jones) and after the latter had set the pace for five furlongs Respectful asserted himself to clear away and finished some 20 lengths in front. The first half-mile was cut out in 57s and the full distance in 2.55. It was a solid round under the circumstances and Respectful should strip in good hpart for his Storey Memorial Handicap engagement the first day here. Yitement and Hunto got to the end of six furlongs in 1.23 3-5. Both did their work well. Awhiowhio 'Trcmain) and Te Morahu McKenzie ran seven furlongs in 1.30. Te Morehu has won several useful races this season and should bear watching in the Beerescourt Hack on Saturday.
Ngawiri Jones) ran half-a-mile in 525, which was the best of the morning over the distance. Ngawiri is a speedy lype on the tracks and will need only to reproduce tier Maiamata Torm to win further for the A. C. Jones stable. Calorie Jones hit out freely over six furlongs in J .22 and pleased by the manner in which she was revelling in her work over the final stages of the trial. She is coming to hand nicely. High Delight's Smart Three The balance of the morning’s fast work was accomplished on the plough, which also provided fast going. High Delight Peters ran home from the three furlong disc in 36 i-ss, a pleasing effort. over a similar distance the Storey Memorial Handicap candidate, Lady the cha'ge of |i. Hlire's*.' clocked i*is. Accompanied over the first two hurdles l»y Cynical Smile Winder , Little Briton Amunsden, gave an attractive display over four hurdles, jumping fast and cleanly throughout. Star Artist Brady, was sent over two hurdles and later Gappy Muir) negotiated four fences satisfactorily, although both were inclined to take their obstacles carefully.
