DEMAND FOR EWES
FIVE-YEAR-OLDS TO 23/6 KEE?r FRAXKTOX MARKET There was a keen demand for breeding ewes at the Frankton saleyards yesterday when a large entry came forward. A feature was the brisk request for five-year-old ewes, one line of 300 five-year-olds making 23s Gd. the best, money realised for this class in the Waikato this season. Small two-tooth ewes realised from 24s to 275, while improved prices were also given for other classes. Old and Inferior sorts sold rpadily at late rates. Messrs 0. \V. Yercoe and Company, Ltd. report on the sale as follows: A large entry of rams, the majority consisting of aged sheep, sold well. The principal sales were as follows: On account of Mr Hallyburton Johnstone. of Whatawhata. 300 five-year-old ewe«. 23s Gd; 165 five-year-old ewes, 225; 70 four-year-old ewes, 22s 6d; 138 two-tooth ewes, 275: 62 small two-tooth ewes. 2 is: ex Mrs K. Egan. Whatawhata. 50 four-year-old ewes. 225: 42 four-year-old ewes. 21s 3d; ex Mr fi. A. Johnstone, Waitetuna. 10G five-year-old ewes, 21s: ex Mr F. C. Johnstone, Waitetuna. 210 five-year-old ewes, iSs: o\ Mr O. \. Eyre. Waimai, 245 five-year-old ewes. 16s id; full-mouth ewes sold from lbs to 13s; cull ewes, 4s to 9s: two-tooth Southdown ewes. 13s Gd to 15s 4d; for-ward-conditioned two-tooth wethers, to 15s 9d: fair quality shorn wether lambs, Ss Gd to 10s: smaller 7s '.o 8s: cull lambs, 4s to 6s; two-tooth Southdown rams, to £4 4s: aged Southdown rams to 2Agns; fair quality two-tooth Romney rams, to £3 3s; aged Romney rams, to £i Is.
