WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

AT WAITERIMU—MATAHURU The Waiterimu-Matahuru Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in the Matahuru Hall, Mrs C. Storey presiding. The jam competition was won by Mrs J. T. Grundy. After lunch a very interesting demonstration was given on the Singer sewing machine. Misses R. and P. Taylor were hostesses. AT TE PAHU The February meeting of the Te Pahu Women's Institute was held in the hall recently, Mrs J. U. Watt presiding over a fair attendance of members. An interesting link letter from the Cuddington and Sandivay Institute was read by Miss Hills. Business relating to the flower show, which is to be held on March 1, was discussed and members were notified that the annual meeting would take place in March and that nominations for the new committee were to be sent to the secretary. Part of the social hour was spent entering into competitions arranged by Mrs Newiands. The roll call, “What I should like to see on next year’s programme,” was well responded to. The competition for zinnias was won by Mrs Bollard. Hostesses for the day were Mesdames C. Arthur and L. Follctt and Miss I. Thomas. AT WHITIKAHU GARDEN PARTY The February meeting of the Whitlkahu Women’s Institute was held as a garden party at Mrs H. Williams' residence at Taubei. Visitors were present from Te Hoe, Gordonton and Taupiri Institutes and from the Tauhei Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs Brown welcomed all members and visitors, and sweets from the home link were distributed. Mrs Chapman, president of the Waikato Federation, addressed the gathering. Swimming, tennis, clock golf and croquet were enjoyed during the afternoon, Mrs Pit lams winning the hidden flower competition. Mrs Xalder was the winner of the clock golf competition, and Mrs Gee won the croquet. The committee served a delicious afternoon tea, which concluded a pleasant afternoon.
