TE AROHA NEWS

DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL ACUTE ACCOMMODATION PROBLEM (Special to Times) TE AROHA, Monday. Tlio Education Department has approved the addition of r.j acres to the Te Aroha High school playing- area. The committee will now have, ample scope lor the expansion or sports facilities. The fact that the school roll has increased to 570 at the commencement of the new term has led to a difficult position in the primary department, where, in order to cope with the greater number, it has been found necessary to send a portion of the school to the park for recreational purposes while the remainder are given a chance to carry on with their routine lessons. To a certain extent the difficulty has been occasioned by tiie inclusion of the Te Aroha West pupils. The headmaster, Mr F. A. Mason, has reported that there is urgent need for two more rooms and additional teachers in the primary school, and another room at the secondary. Tlte committee has decided to bark up tbe requisitions already sent to tbe board urging that the local halls be hired to accommodate Standards lIL\ and 1118, as the pupils were now sitting three in a seat. Urgent representations are to be made also for a further class-room at the High School. Proposed Assembly Hall In reply to a request from the school committee the Education Department stated that the lowest tender Tor the erection of the school assembly hall was £2O-3S against the former ligure of £I6SO, which would necessitate the committee increasing its subsidy from £SOO to £GS9 Gs Sd. It has been decided to notify the Education Board that the committee’s funds are limited, and to request reconsideration of the demand for an increased subsidy.
