WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE CREWS OFFICIALLY WELCOMED (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday With their craft, the crews of the three champion Sydney boats, Taree, Malvina and St. George arrived on the Awatea yesterday to participate in the worlds 18-footer championship on ! Waitemata Harbour this week. The ; entire party numbered 4 9 and was ac- ! corded a civic reception by the Mayor, j Sir Ernest Davis. The visiting yachts will be sailed ! for the first time in New Zealand ; waters in the three championship races i to-morrow and on Friday and Satin'- : day, against 17 local boats, and will aiso take part in club races on Thurs- j day and Sunday. ! The visit has been made possible by ■ the efforts of the New Zealand InferDominion \acht Racing Committee, ' which some months ago secured the consent of Mr W. Seahill, owner of last year's champion boat. Taree, to have the next contest held in Auckland this year, although normally it would not have taken place until 1940. The Queensland 18ft. Sailing Club also waived its right to have the races , held at Brisbane. To cement the j agreement. Mr Seahill handed the | trophy to Mr G. M. Dennes, chairman j of the New Zealand committee, who j brought it to Auckland.
