AUCKLAND BATTING FAST BOWLER6’ SUCCESS HOME SIDE ALL OUT FOR 85 (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Monday The opening match of their New Zealand tour of Sit Julien Cahn’s eleven against an Auckland combined colleges team began this morning in bright, windy weather on a fast wicket. The visitors opened with two fast bowlers, Phillipson and Watts, and the batsmen were not comfortable to them. Phillipson soon got two wickets, bowling Andrews, and a couple of overs later, getting Burgess caught by the wicket-keeper, Maxwell. The total was then 27. Irvine had reached double figures when he was joined by Lund but his end came when the visitors replaced Watts by Walsh. In the latter’s first over Irvine attempted to hit to leg and was bowled. The score was then three for 31, of which Irvine scored 17. At the luncheon adjournment Collegiate Eleven had lost nine wickets for 80.
