AROUND THE GREENS

BOWLING IN HAMILTON TOURNAMENTS THIS MONTH PROGRESS OF CLUB MATCHES (By “Skip”) A one-day tournament on the Hamilton East greens is scheduled for February 18, the same day that the Hardley Shield match between Hamilton and Auckland wilj be played. The Hamilton Club has set aside February 25 for a one-day tournament. On February iB. at the Frankton Club's greens, the champion teams of Hamilton, Whitiora, Cambridge and Claudelands clubs will meet in the first round of the champion rinks competition. Club Competitions After the sixth round of the Cambridge singles competition there were only two two-lifers remaining. H. N. Freeman was eliminated by N. McFarlane by one point, while A. Pearce carried too many guns on the day for W. Cuthbert. At Te Awamutu the club's championship singles is being played on the one-life system. After three rounds' play the surviving players were R. Free, W. J. North, L. G. Armstrong and T. W. Gee. Windfall for Matamata There is no bowling club in New Zealand which would not welcome a substantial sum from an unexpected source to allow it to make extensions and improvements. The Matamata Club, under the will of the late Mr Edward Bowler, a pioneer settler in the Te Aroha and Matamata districts, who died in December, has inherited a sum of £250. There is little likelihood that the Matamata Club will not know' what to do with their welcome windfall. No Ditch Boards \ There is one thing you cannot find in New Zealand, and that is a ditch board, comments the Sydney Referee. All the banks are composed of turf, and well grassed. And the reason why boarded banks are not to be found lies In the fact that the New Zealand Council, unlike the Australian Bowling Council, will not allow them. Tribute to Dominion Player Professor Maxwell Walker, one of the best-known bowlers in Auckland, has earned a tribute from the wellknown Australian bowling writer, Mr R. T. Harrison. No personality could compare with Maxw’ell Walker from the bowler’s angle, states Mr Harrison. In addition to one of the greatest players of all time, he mixes his sense of humour with that of dignity, takes the bad with the good, and fills every role the bowling green or the platform calls for to a split measurement. He

Queensland's wicketkeeper batsman, who followed his feat of equalling the world record by dismissing 12 batsmen in one match by dismissing seven Victorians in one innings as well as not allowing one bye.
