VALUES FOR EWES
TYVO=TOOTHS EASIER OLDER SHEEP SELL WELL MARKET AT MORRINSVTLLE Another heavy penning of breeding ewes was forward at the Morrinsville stock sale yesterday, some 15,000 store sheep of all classes being on offer. The only alteration of note was in the demand for two-tooth ewes, buyers not showing the same pitch of enthusiasm as last week. The older sheep, however, experienced a brisk sale. The sheep were again principally East Coast consignments. The top money for two-tooths was 26s 9d in comparison with 29s 6d last week. Yesterday’s top bid was obtained for a line of 225 good twotooths from the Panekau Station. A draft from the same line sold at 26s 3d the same price being paid for another line from a different vendor, sold earlier in the sale. A small line of 50 from the Moko Moko Stations sold at 255, while 6d above this figure was paid for a small line from Mr W. T. Metcalfe. Lines of small two-tooths were traded from 20s Id to 235. Values For Other Ewes There was little slackening in the demand for older ewes. Five-year-olds generally made from 18s to 22s 2d, the latter figure being given for an attractive line of 162, probably the best line of five-year-olds seen at the yards this year. Good lines of mixed aged ewes were traded readily from 18s 4d to 225, while several lines of 4-tooths w’ere marketed from 23s 6d to 25s 4d. A line of 635 six-year ewes sold at 17s sd, while a line of mixed aged ewes from North Auckland sold for 15s. There was again a ready demand for lambs and values showed a further improvement, prices in many instances being Is per head better than last week. One line of good ewe lambs made the top money of 17s 6d, while other entries of this class were marketed from 12s 9d to 15s 9d. Good wether lambs were bought from 10s to 13s 4d, while smaller descriptions were cleared from 6s 3d to 9s. A routine market was experienced for fat stock and few price changes were recorded. Fat sheep prices showed no alteration from last week, while for a small supply of plain quality beef the market remained firm. Boner cattle and stores were forward in full average numbers, and, while values for these classes remained unchanged, potter bulls tended a shade easier. A heavy penning of fat pigs met with a brisk demand and vendors in the majority of instances obtained late Frankton rates. Store pigs, however, were slow of sale, but there was no drastic alteration in values. Auctioneers’ Quotations The auctioneers quote as follows: — Farmers’ Auctioneering Company, Ltd.
