Bonnet's speech in the Senate, in which he declared that France would not cede an inch of territory or permit the infringement of the integrity of Spain, included a conciliatory passage in which lie claimed that no effort to dissipate misunderstanding would be neglected. “We cannot imagine Italy committing aggression against France,” he added. “The two nations are solemnly bound by ties of 'language, culture and blood." Bonnet declared attempts bad been made to find a divergence of opinion between Britain and France, to which .Mr Chamberlain had replied clearly and effectively. The United States was a faithful friend, but it was necessary to leave Franeo-American friendship some shade of discretion to avert exuberance which might be prejudicial to it. Mr Roosevelt had shown the greatest understanding, and the three democracies. united, had nothing to fear from anyone. The Independent. Cable Service says the Prime Minister, M Daiadier, stressed the serious state of international trade, and said: 'lf a new rhythm of commercial relations is not established, there can be no other issue than the bloodiest, most atrocious aud most ruthless war."
