BRITAIN AND GERMANY INFORMAL TALKS DIRECT CONTACT DESIRED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Feb. S The President of the Board of Trade, Mr Oliver Stanley, ; n answer to a question in the House of Commons, said informal conversations had been taking place between officials of the Federation of British Industries and the Reichsgruppe Industries, with lhe view to devising means to settle the problems arising from the competition between the industries of the two countries. These conversations, which had been proceeding wita all knowledge and approval of the British Govemment, were to be followed at the end of the „ month by lornir.l discussions between the two organisations. He hoped it would then be possible to initiate direct negotiatims between a number of British industries and competing industries in Germany. He expressed the hope that British industrialists would avail themselves extensively of the opportunity to make direct contact with their German competitors. “With goodwill on Loth sides," said Mr Stanley, "it should, I fed sure, be possible to solve many problems that have arisen or may arise affecting the trade of the two countries and so obviate the need fir resort to ether measures."
