Speedboat Regatta Owing to the proposed date clashing with Physical Fitness Week activities it was decided at a meeting of the Hamilton Speedboat Regatta Committee last evening to postpone the regatta. Smart Arrest Made At Waitara yesterday Archibald Andrew Charles Scott (53), a labourer, pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence for entering a store at Sentry Hill with intent to commit a crime. School Sports Ground A decision to accept the Borough Council’s offer of 1000 cubic yards ot spoil from Garden Place Hill at Is 6d per yard was made at a meeting last evening of the Hamilton Technical School Board of Managers. Goitre Prevention Praising the Maori ffsh and seaweed diet for its value in preventing goitre, Dr. John Guthrie, in an address at ■Christchurch to the New Zealand branch of the Royal Sanitary Institute recently, suggested that more seaweed might be used in garden and orchard soils. He said that if more iodinecontaining refuse were used in this way it would help to protect people against goitre. New Wigram Hangars Two large concrete hangars are included in the new building programme about to be started at Wigram, the Royal New Zealand Air Force training station in Canterbury, in the last few days three tenders have been let for buildings which will involve the expenditure of nearlj £50,000. These are for the two new hangars and for a second store building. Temporary barracks for single men are also being built and should be finished shortly. Overloaded Truck For operating an over-loaded motor truck and trailer on the HamiltonMorrinsville main highway on December 20, the Roose Shipping Company, Limited, was fined £4 and costs by Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today. On a further charge of excessive length of the loading, a fine of £2 ,and costs was imposed. Traffic Inspector G. D. Treadgold stated that the load extended 10 feet over the statutory allowance at the rear of Hie trailer. Public Bicycle Racks The need for another bicycle rack in Victoria Street was commented on by Mr H. M. Hammond at a meeting of the general purposes commintttee of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening. At present the verandah poles at that end of the town were being used as leaning places for cycles and the installation of a rack would be a great improvement.
