HIDES AND SKINS Competition improved at the fortnightly sale of hides and skins held by Auckland brokers this week. Cow i hides brought better prices from exporters and tanners and ox hides were Arm. Tallow was steady at the recently declined rates. Prices for best grades were:—• Hides.—Ox (abattoirs), heavy, to 6|d; medium, 6d to 6*d; light, 5Jd: ox 'country butchers), heavy, sfd to 6 l-8d; medium 5d to s*d; light, cow (country butchers) heavy, i 5 3-8 d: light to medium. 5 3-8; farmers (all weights), 27-8 d to 4id; | yearlings (abattoirs), heavy, 5 7-8 d to 16 3-8 d: light to medium, 7id; secI ond grade, 5d to 6 l-8d; faulty and j cut, 4d to 4 5-8 d: calf skins, 31b to 51b, 9id; 61b to 81b, 9d to 9*d; second and cut. 7.fd: slippy. 6id. Salted Sheepskins.—Three-quarter to full wool, large, 4s 3d to 5s each; medium, 3s 6d to 4s; light and small, 2s 6d to 3s: hare, 6d to Is 9d. Pry Sheepskins.—Three-quarters to full-wool, medium to fine crossbred, 6id to 6id: damaged and faulty, 4id to sld; half-wool, medium to fine crossbred 5Jd; damaged and faulty, 3 3-4 d to 4id: bare to quarter-wool sound, 3d to 4d; damaged and faulty, 2d to 2ld. Tallow.—Good quality, 12s to 12s I 6d per cwt; second grade, 10s to 11s; \ third, 8s to 9s 6d. I HAMILTON STORE SHEEP VALUES The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company. Ltd., report having held their usual weekly store sheep sale at Frankton on Wednesday, when a good entry of store lambs and a fair entry of ewes, comprising mostly aged lots, came forward. Strong competition was forthcoming for lambs, which sold at advanced rates, a total clearance being effected. Well-grown Romney ewe lambs made t.o 13s 6d, best shorn wether lambs 11s lid to 13s, forward woolly lambs to 11s 7d, medium shorn lambs 8s 8d to 10s 7d, five-year breeding ewes 17s, soundmouth ewes 13s to 14s, potter ewes 2s to ss, sound-mouth Southdown rams 2gns to 2*gns, aged Southdown rams lgn to 2gns, potters 7s to 10s. HIKUTAIA YARDING The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., .report having held a sale at Hikutaia yesterday, when a good yarding of ail classes of cattle came forward. Competition was steady throughout, and late quotations were fully maintained. Realisations were: Medium second quality fat cows £5 10s to £6 ss, lighter £4 10s to £5 2s 6d: heavy boner cows £3 5s to £3 17s, lighter £2 to £3 Is: heavy potter bulls £8 8s to £8 17s 6d, lighter £5 19s to £7 12s 6d.
