NOITARO GOES WELL RACELINE’S SMART THREE CANDIDATES FOR ROTORUA (By "Martian”) The No. 2 grass was available for galloping this morning and provided excellent going. A number of Rotorua candidates were given their final trials, but despite the fact that they were travelling only over the actual distance, times generally were not exceptional, the best of the morning being a smart five furlongs by Noitaro and three furlongs by Raceline, a Colossus colt and a Surveyor filly. The best over a distance was the effort of the maiden I-orest Lake. Rollicker (Thomson) came home from the five furlong peg in 1.6. He looks none the worse for racing at Ellerslie and if taken through to Rotorua he should give a solid account of himself. A useful half-mile was credited to Jean Quex (Thomson) who accounted for Calorie (Jones) in 49 4-ss. Jean Quex has been making good progress of late and is not without prospects at Arawa Park. Wyndora (Ensor) dashed over three furlongs in 40s. A Useful Round Forest Lake (Gollop), who has been racing over hurdles of late, ran once round in 1.50 4-5, the best of the morning over the distance. There was little between Midland (McLaughlin) and Water Fox (Long) over the deciding stages of five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. Both are making good headway under J. F. Tutchen’f guidance. Prince Acre (Winder) and Susan (Hain) negotiated a round in 1.53. These members of A. WirAJer’s establishment, who re-commenced work only this week, are in good order to enter on a further preparation. Diversity (Jones) ran half a mile in 50*s. Mio Fratollo (Ensor), who looks improved with racing at Matamata. was timed to cover a similar distance in 50s, a useful effort for a horse of his class. A Colossus colt and a Surveyor filly were responsible for a smart three furlongs, finishing atractively to record 36£s. Malagigi—Dark Shadow Awhiowhio (McLaughlin) and Sen Acre (Long) came home the final three furlongs of their work in 38$s. The former is on the upgrade and is to have his first start for a spell at the local meeting this month. Malagigi (Goulsbro) and Dark Shadow (Thomson) were companions over a round and were not bustled to traverse the distance in 1.54 4-5. Malagigi is holding his condition well and should strip in solid fettle when called upon to race. Raceline (Thomson) indicated that he is in good order for racing at Rotorua by dashing home from the three furlong peg in 3645. Du Maurier (Long) was not extended to record 54 4-5 s for half-a-mile. Lornacre (Long) followed in 53 4-ss. The best sprint of the morning was credited to Noiatro (Long) who hit out attractively over five furlongs in 1.2, her final * half-mile occupying 495. : Noitaro is an acceptor for both the | Mokoia Hack and sprint at Rotorua on i Saturday and should give a good acI count of herself in whichever she starts. Racewhip (Gilmer) and Innes Lad (Muir) ran once round, the former finishing clear of his companion in 1.57 2-ss. Sergia (Thomson) sprinted down the straight. She is bearing a healthy appearance and will lack nothing on the score of condition for racing over the week-end. Jumpers Schooled Cynical Smile (Winder) and Mio l.ume (McLaughlin) were schooled over five hurdles and shaped well. Racewhip (Gilmer) and Inness Lad (Muir) were associated over a round of hurdles and gave a satisfactory display. Later Cappv (Muir) was sent over eight hurdles in all and though he was not quite at home at several fences he nevertheless gave a creditable exhibition. Included among the riding engagements for the first day of the Rotorua meeting are:— F. Hain.—Anion, Royal Dance. H. Long.—Stokowski, Sen Acre, Star Artist, Nautipol, Noitaro, Surtoy. J. Winder.—Mio Fratollo (High weight), Gay Poto. J. McLaughlin.—Kotaki Acre. W. H. Jones.—Royal Abb, Mio Fratollo v Geyser Hack), Miss Rangi. Cheval do Volee Scratched It was stated by A. Rowan this morning that Cheval de Vole©- and Fils de Yaals were scratched for engagements at the Rotorua meeting at i p.m. on Tuesday. The Woodville trainer, F. W. Davis, has arrived at Te Rapa with Silver Stick, Coronation and Pern.
