VISITORS WELCOMED
GREETING BY NEW MAYOR TRIBUTE TO SHOW OFFICIALS “ I have the honour to-day to welcome Their Excellencies, the flovernorGeneral and Lady Galway, it is with pride and pleasure that I welcome them to Hamilton and to the Waikato and I sincerely trust that their short stay with us will be as much a pleasure to them as it is to our people.” ,said the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr H. D. Caro, speaking at Hie opening of the Waikato Winter Show this afternoon. “ I have also to welcome all visitors who have come to Hamilton to attend this great exhibition.” Mr Caro went on. ** May they go away with pleasant recollections of Hamilton. His Excellency is here this afternoon to open this, the 32nd Waikato Winter Show, which has grown to be the greatest dairy produce show in the world.” Monument to Pioneers The exhibition stood as a monument to those pioneers who 32 years ago initiated it. Since then, year by year, by the strenuous efforts of its officials and by the generous support of the people of Hamilton and the Waikato, the show had become the outstanding winter show of New Zealand and the largest dairy produce show anywhere. Hamilton and the Waikato should justly be proud of such an achievement.
This year farmers and others interested would be able to compare their own cheese produce with that of 30 different overseas countries normally competing with New Zealand on the London market. Tn every way the Winter Show had done much for Hamilton and the Waikato. It had been mainly responsible for bringing town and country into closer touch and to-day there was a mutual understanding. “ May I conclude with a word of praise for the Waikato Winter Show officials,” added Mr Caro. “ especially for Mr W. 11. Paul, their energetic secretary, who has done so much fo make this great show the success it is.*'
