HOUSING LOANS
AMPLE ACCOMMODATION LIBERAL MARGINS OFFERED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. “It would seem that Mr H. Atmore, M.P., lias not up-to-date information regarding the State Advances Corporation's policy in granting loans for house building,'’ said the Minister of Finance, the Hon. \V. Nash, when asked to comment on a statement made by the member for Nelson in a broadcast address. "It would be inferred from Mr At more's remarks that flic present policy was less favourable Ilian that in operation during the time previous Governments were in office. This is contrary to fact. “ Any genuine applicant requiring a loan to assist with the building of a home can obtain his requirements from the State Advances Corporation," said the Minister, ” provided he can show that he is creditworthy and his proposals regarding location and type of house conform to required standards. " Briefly summarised,'’ Mr Nash added, “ the present policy for the improvement of the housing position is: To provide rental houses in urban and suburban areas for those with limited resources or who for other reasons do not desire to own their own homes; to grant special loans for the erection of homes on liberal margins (95 per ce.it o’ more, if necessary) to those whose income and stability of employment make them eligible for such loans."
