ST. MORITZ SKATERS

IN ENTIRELY NEW ACT The recent screening of the film, ‘‘Girl in a Million,” starring Sonja Henie, world's champion skater, delighted and thrilled thousands of New Zealand people, and has revived the spectacular sport, says a contributor. It will be further enhanced by the return and farewell appearance at the Winter Show of an outstanding personality in the skating world, Professor Corthesy, instructor from the Icerink of St. Moritz, Switzerland, who taught such notables as King Boris of Bulgaria, the late King Alexander of Serbia, the late King Albert of Belgium, and, in the present act, entitled,

‘‘Wonders on Wheels,” has had command performances before the late King George V and Queen Mary, and his ex-Majesty, King Edward VIII. On Saturday, February 19, at Hobart, they were honoured by a visit from the Governor-General of Australia, the Governor of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Prime Minister, and other distinguished people, and the Governor-General congratulated both artistes and expressed particular admiration for Miss Paravicini’s wonderful work. The vice-chairman of the centenary regatta committee presented Professor Corthesy with the regatta programme on silk.

These intrepid performers, the St. Moritz Skaters, perform feats of daring that have to be seen to be believed. The manner in which they skim the outside edge of the narrow platform and the lady partner is rotated through the air at terrific speed is a poem in perfect balance and implicit confid • cnce. The whole act is a dazzling whirl of new, exhilarating thrills. For the convenience of the public, the St. Moritz Skaters show at half-hourly intervals, commencing at 12 o’clock each day and 7.30 each evening. This is their farewell appearance, as they return next month to fulfil a big theatrical engagement in Europe. You will be thrilled when you see this amazing new act at the Winter Show this year.
