KAIPAKI AGAIN BEATEN

OLD BOYS VICTORIOUS LOSERS SHOW* IMPROVEMENT Although Old Boys were victorious in their game with Kaipaki by three goals to one, the losers held their own throughout and had their shooting been a little more accurate, they would have gone close to winning the match. Did Buys d.d not have it all their own way as was proved by the fact that Snullie, the Kaipaki goalie, did not receive the amount of work he had at other times. D. Pountney the uld Boys’ lull-back, played a much improved game, while Ewan in the home team was also outstanding. The teams were : Kaipaki.—Smiliie, Boyd, Goodwin, Farrell, Bones, Dunwoody, Boyd, Richardson, Boyd, Graham, uddy. Old Boys.—Sutherland, Pountney, Pountney, rtoss, Bramwell, McKinnon, Sandford, West, Ewan, Davies, Tomlinson. Ewan Bcores Old Boys were on the attack soon after the opening bully and the movement culminated in Ewan scoring a great goalDuring the next few minutes Kaipaki made a gallant effort to recover the position and for some time they caused their opponents considerable trouble. The attacking team made reepated efforts to goal but the Old Boys’ defence was too solid. Old Boys relieved when, from a long corner shot by Kaipaki, West broke through to take play back to the centre of the field. Led by Bones, Kaiuaki organised a strong attack, but it was put down by D. Pountney, who was playing a much improved full-back game, when he relieved with a hard hit. However, Kaipaki continued to press an A a great scoring chance came when Oddy beat D. Pountney, who fumbled badly, and carried the ball down the line to the circle. But Sutherland proved too good, relieving the position well. A surprise came soon after when Jvaipaki scored unexpectedly. Althought they held the territorial advantage they were well held, but A. Boyd overcame the difficulty, broke through and goaled with a lightning shot. Honours did not remain even for long. Old Boys kept attacking the Kaipaki circle and alter Ewan had made an attempt lo net, Davies took possession to put Old Boys in the lead by two goals to one. The Second Half The second half opened with Old Boys on the attack again. Kaipaki did not allow them the advantage for long and from the quarter-way mark the defenders relieved. Bones sent out to Oddy, who made a fast run up the line before centring to Farrell. The last-named player made a halfhearted shot at goal, the ball passing outside the net. Old Boys increased their lead when a tussle in front of the goal resulted in Ewan again netting. Smiliie made a valiant effort to save, but he was overcome by the numerical advantage of the attackers. Towards the end of the game the play became harder and on several occasions Kaipaki looked like reducing the deficit- Poor goal shooting proved their downfall and Old Boys ware able to relieve time and again. The final whistle sounded with Old Boys still in the lead by three goals to one. Messrs Kirk and Coe were the umpires.
