AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP EWING AND YATES IN FINAL the defeat of hattersley (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received May 28, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, May 27 The British amateur golf championship was continued to-day. Results : Quarter-finals Somerville defeated Hattersley, 2 up; Yates defeated Tolley, 3 and 2; Ewing defeated Stevenson, 1 up; Thomson defeated Crawley at the 20th. In the game between Somerville and Hattersley the latter was out in 35 and Somerville in 36, but on the return Somerville squared at the 16th as a result of downing a five-yard putt. Hattersley was one down when the pair reached the 18th. where Hattersley, with his second, was bunkered on the edge of the green. Instead of playing over a hazard, Somerville took the hole and the match. Boml-flnals Ewing defeated Somerville. 2 up. Yates defeated Thomson, at the 19th. Player Criticises Galleryites Crawley hotly complains that the Troon galleryites six times applauded his bad shots, and says: " I never want to play here again.’ ’ A gallery of 5000 also did a lot of shouting during the Thomson-Yates semi-finals. Played In Hamilton Hattersley has won the New South Wales and Australian amateur titles. He took part in the New Zealand championship meeting at Hamilton last year, and after finishing close up to the leaders in the open he was defeated by B. M. Silk on the last green in the semi-final of the amateur championship. Ewing In Walker Cup Team R. G. Ewing has been nominated for the remaining place in the British Walker Cup team.
