POST BOX.
A Jolly Puzzle WHEN JACK WAS LATE Jack has got to be at school at 9 o'clock in the morning, and leaves home every day at 8.30 in order to be there at the right time. One day Jack met a friend with whom he had a long chat. In fact, they had so much to talk about that exactly seven minutes passed before Jack continued
on his way. Knowing that he had to hurry along, he ran one and a-half times as quickly as he usually did. Nevertheless he was late for school, for it was two minutes past nine when he entered the class-room. I shall not dwell upon the teacher's remarks about that, but I should just like to ask you the following:— (1) How far had Jack got on his way to school when he met his chum?
(2) What was the time when he met him?
