RAVAGES OF FLOODS
WAIAPU COUNTY DAMAGE NEED FOR CHECKING EROSION GISBORNE, Thursday. Damage exceeding £22,015 was done in the Waiapu County by the recent floods, according to a report submitted to the council by the engineer. Four floods occurred since February, sach occasioning serious damage to roads by slips and erosion. The engineer adds that serious flooding commenced after the forests had been cleared and each succeeding flood has caused heavier damage. He doe's not think the erosion can be checked until half the area of the county is returned to forest.
