THE DESIRE FOR PEACE MR CHAMBERLAIN’S STATEMENT ATTITUDE TO SPANISH PARTIES (United Frees Assn.—Elec. Tel. copyright.) (Received May 27, 3.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 26 At a conference between Mr Chamberlain, Viscount Halifax, Blr T. Insklp and representatives of the Trade Union Congress, Sir W. Citrine expressed the fear that Britain’s armed strength may be used to assist the Fascists. Mr Chamberlain replied: ** I am no Fascist, but a Democrat of the home breed.'* ** The Government desires peace and If this can be achieved In two years I believe the danger of an International upheaval will subside,” said Mr Chamberlain. He added that the Government did not desire to support either side In Spain.
