Queen Carnival Progress In the queen carnival being conducted by the Hamilton Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club considerable rearrangement* of the queens has taken place. The position at present is: Athletic and Harrier Queen 1, Business Queen 2, Basketball Queen 3, Frankton Queen 4. No Arms for Enemy.—A reply to the allegation that the policy of the National £arty had not yet been fully expounded was made by Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. (Waltomo) when speaking at the meeting of National Party members in Hamilton last evening. ‘I do not believe in expounding the pdlicy too fully at this stage,” he said, “for I do not believe in arming the enemy.” Karaka Assault Case.—At Pukekohe yesterday Walter Alfred Thomas Church (20,, a farm labourer, was committed for trial on charges of assault causing actual bodily harm an i with attempt to commit rape. It is alleced that accused entered the house of an elderly woman who was living alone at Karaka on April 25. and assaulted her so viciously that a number of ribs were broken and both eyes blackened. Accused made a statement to the police, which, however, he refused to sign saying it was not true. Ex-Servicemen's Reunion. With visitors from Hamilton, Te Kuiti, Otorohanza. Cambridge and Kawhia there was an attendance of about 250 at the annual reunion of the Te Awarnutu Returned Soldiers Association. The newly-elected president. Mr C. M. Whitehouse, presided. Special guests • were Lieut.-Colonels J. Matson, of I Kawhia. apd C. J. Pierce, of Ohaupo, IMr W. J. Broadfoot. M.P. for Waitonio, and Mr G. Spinley, Major of Te Awamutu.
