OONOLUBION OF BEABON HAMILTON CLUB'S DINNER PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES The athletic season in the Waikato was brought to a successful conclusion last evening when over 60 members of the Hamilton Amateur Athletic and -Cycle Club gathered in the Centreway tearooms for the dinner and presentation of trophies. The president of the club, Mr A. H. Malcolm presided and opened the function with the Royal Toast. Proposing the toast to the Hamilton Club, Mr G. C. H. Gould, president of the Waikato sub-centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, said that the success of the body depended almost entirely on the officials, who had worked untiringly during the season. He n’so congratulated the athletes on the high standard of sport, they had attained. The Hamilton club was one of the strongest in New Zealand and he felt sure it could field a team of from 15 to 20 athletes capable of defeating a dlub with the same number of competitors drawn from any part of the Dominion. In replying to the toast, Mr R. B. Joyes the members and visitors to the dinner. In the toast to the subcentre Mr Malcolm referred to the valuable work performed by the controlling association. Mr Gould, in replying, said that the central body had experienced an uphill fight during the season, but thanks to the delegates, who had taken upon themselves to do the hardest part of the work, success had been attained.
Progress of the Club Mr R. Manderson proposed the toast to past members. He paid a tribute to those who started the club 45 years ago and who had established it on a sound footing. He also referred to the members who had kept the ball rolling. In replying, Mr C. Thompson expressed the wish that some of the older and experienced members had remained with the club in order that it. might benefit from their valuable assistance. “The clubs in the outlying districts have done their best towards placing Waikato athletics before the public,” said Mr J. H. Armstrong, in proposing the toast to kindred clubs. “For the progress it has made during the season the Hamilton club deserves the congratulations of all,” said Mr A. Bloore, in reply. “In spite of much opposition it has come through with much credit and now it seems that the people of the Waikato are beginning to realise that they have an athletic body of the standard of the Hamilton club in their district-” The speaker referred to the benefits of the new gTound at Hinemoa Park. He hoped that the past season would be the forerunner of many more just as successful.
Carnival Queens Present The four queens competing in the club’s Queen Carnival, who were present at the dinner, were toasted by Mr Joyes, and Mr P. Reid replied on their behalf. At the conclusion of the function Mr Gould presented trophies won by the following during the season:— Misses S. Page, D. Buckingham, M. Reekie, J. Cockhead, P. Trenberth and A. Hawke. Messrs J.
