NO MEAT PURCHASE

BRITISH REPORT DENIED MARKET RISE ANTICIPATED (By TPlPornnh.—Prpas Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday A vigorous denial has been given to a cable message from London on Tuesday that the British Government would begin soon to purchase 250,000 tons of United Kingdom-grown meat to place in cold storage. New Zealand meat producers, in view of this announcement, anticipated a rise in the price of their produce, but inquiries in London by New Zealand meat exporting Arms have revealed that there is no justiAcation for the report. The significance of such a pur'' e and the effect it would have on demand for colonial production is evident when it is realised that 250,000 tons of meat is equal to about 9,000,000 carcases of mutton and lamb.
