MEAT IN BRITAIN
PRICES IN BMITHFIELD DEMAND FOR LAMB EASIER (By Telegraph.—Prp.ss Association) WELLINGTON. Friday The report of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board on the Smithfield market for the week ended May 26 states that the demand for lamb slowed down a little this week and sonje prices are a shade easier. Trade was slow in wethers and ewes sold at unchanged prices. No frozen beef was available and prices for chilled beef have improved owing to lighter supplies and better trade. New Zealand porker pigs are meeting with a fair trade at unchanged prices. The market is quiet for New Zealand baconer pigs. Following are the prices:—New Zealand lambs, Canterbury, 361 b. and under, 7gd; other South Island, 361 b. and under, 7|d; North Island, second quality, average, about 3lib., 7id; Australian lambs, Victorian, first quality, 29-361 b., 7d. Chilled beef prices are the approximate average prices for the week.
