SYDNEY WATERSIDERS AGREEMENT “UNDER DURESS!” EMBARGO ON LOADING LIFTED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) SYDNEY, May 25 The waterside workers held a stopw’ork meeting to-day, at which 400 were present, to consider the ultimatum of the Federal Government that unless they agreed to load all cargoes offering the licensing provisions of the Transport Workers’ Act would be applied to the Sydney members of the Waterside Workers’ Federation and disciplinary action would be taken at other ports. By an overwhelming majority the meeting decided 44 under duress ” to lift their four months’ embargo on the loading of scrap iron, tin clippings and tallow from Japan and Germany, and thus escape licensing. The meeting carried a long resolution expressing its " realisation of the disastrous effects of the licensing system on fellow-unionists in other ports of Australia and the distress, poverty and loss of employment caused to loyal members resulting from it.” 44 We are resolved to meet the situation under duress sooner than allow’ our branch to be destroyed,” the resolution stated.
