COUNTY ROADS
WORK IN WAIKATO PROGRESS WITH DRAINAGE In his report to the monthly meeting- of the Waikato County ‘council yesterday the engineer. Mr A. A. Woodward, stated that owing to the extremely had conditions on the deviations of the Taupiri-Morrinsville main highway all construction work on the contract being carried out had been suspended until next summer. The contractor was widening and metalling the deviations so that traffic would not be held up during the period the work was suspended. The reconstruction and metalling of the Hamilton-Tauhei main highway had been commenced, and in the Ruakura riding improvements had been completed at the junction of Hillcrest and Silverdale roads.
Most of the roads in the county bad received treatment and were in fairly good order. However, with the heavy carting being done it was difficult to maintain a good surface on the damil-ton-Tauhei road. Drainage work had also been carried out during the month and good progress had been made. The report was adopted.
