PRE-WEDDING PARTIES

TE AWAMUTU BRIDE-TO-BE An evening in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Molly North was given recently by members of the Te Awamutiu Athletic Basketball Association. The guests were entertained withe elocutionary items by Miss Audrey Mairs; songs by Miss Galloway, and piano solos by Miss Mary Grotty.

Music for dancing was supplied by Miss W. Gilbert and an extra was played by Mr Graham Lee. Two competitions were won by Miss Crotty and partner and Miss Bygrove and partner.

During the evening Mrs D. Young spoke highly of Miss North as a member of the basketball team and Miss L. Blodham presented her with a beautiful jardiniere from the club. Among those present were :—Mesdames D. Young, North, Fox, McGivern, Grigg, Cowley, Warner, Misses Pat Sherley, Joan Sherley, Dorothy Bloxham, Audrey Mairs, Corden, Joan Galloway, Barbara Fox, Dorothy Stevens, Betty Pratt, Phyllis North, V. Johnson, Mary Crotty, Phyllis Bloxham, B. By grove, Winnie Gilbert, Helen Taswill, Jessie Unie, W. Aldridge, Kay Collison.

GIFT EVENING An enjoyable gift evening was held in the Arawa Hall on Tuesday, In honour of Miss Molly Goodlette, who Is to he married shortly. The hostesses for the evening were Miss Greta Jonathan, wearing a frock of white victory crepe metalasse with sealette coatee, and Miss Anne Smith, who wore a frock of bottle green crinkled matalasse with sealette coatee. The guest-of-honour wore black and gold tinsel over satin beaute. Mr J. R. Johnston was M.C. The evening passed pleasantly with dancing and competitions, and a display of conjuring by Mr W. S. Chandler. The competitions were won by Mr B. Goodlette and Miss V. Davies, novelty dances being won by Miss G. : Jonathan and Mr P. Dahl, and Miss IN. Shaw and partner. Mr A. Dargan played the extras. i A delicious supper was served after ! which Miss Goodlette opened the many gif; parcels. Mr P. Daysh suitably replied. Among those present were: Mesdames A. Dargan, H. Chandler, E. Fletcher, E. Walsh; Misses E. Smith, J. Cook, L.. Goodlette, M. Shaw, B. Ellis, V. Davies, L. Piercy, K. Walsh, L. Bradley. KITCHEN EVENING AT WAITOA An enjoyable evening was spent In the Waitoa Hall recently on the occasion of a kitchen evening tendered Miss J. McLeod, who is to be married shortly. The tiime was spent with dancing, the. music being supplied by Miss P. Blackford, of Elstow. On behalf of the residents and friends, Mr W. Nicholson, chairman, asked the guest-of-honour to accept the many gift parcels. Mr V. Dobbs responded on bohalf of Miss McLeod.

A novelty dance was won by Mr and Mrs F. 0. Johansen and Mr R. King was dance M.C-

Musical honours were accorded the guasls of the evening after which dancing was continued.
