FORMATION OF HIGHWAY

RAGLAN COUNTY DISCUSSION DEPUTATION FROM SETTLERS (Times Special Reporter) NGARUAWAHIA. Thursday The question of having the construction <»f the highway between Huntly and Rotowaro revoked in favour of the route to Rotongaro was placed before the Raglan County Council at its meeting yesterday bv a deputation of settlers. It was pointed out that if the highway were constructed to Rotongaro a larger number of settlers would be served. The chairman. Mr H. W. Wilson, stated that the Huntly-Rotowaro route gave more direct access to the backcountry settlers, and could carry a heavier volume of traffic. The alternative route to Rotongaro would, as the deputation had suggested, give greater service to settlers in the immediate area. However, the Main Highways Board would not be in favour of laying down the longer route to Rotongaro. The county engineer. Mr K. M. Wright, suggested that if the present highway were revoked the Main High-

ways Board might not provide the same subsidy In respect of the new route as was at present being granted t for the Huntlv-notowaro road. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to have the matter, in writing, placed before the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, and the Main Highways Board.
