| THE ELIMINATION OF BRITAIN EFFORT TO SAVE MATCH (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, May 23 When the doubles between Puncec and Mitic (Yugoslavia) and Butler and Wilde (Britain) were resumed at Zagreb to-day the British players made a determined effort to save the rubber and match. After they squared the -sets, however, the Yugoslavs won the fifth, and Britain thus was eliminated. Although the remaining singles had then no bearing on the match, Yugoslavia left no doubt of superiority when Mitic went on to beat Shayes, 6—2, G—3. 11 —9; and Puncee beat Butler, G—3, G—2, 3 —G, G—3. At Milan. —Taroni and Quintavale (Italy) beat Ilebda and Spychala (Poland), 11—9, 2—6, 6 i, 4—6, 7—5. Tloczynski (Poland) beat De Stefani (Italy), G —B, 4—6, 6—4, G—2. The draw for the third round, in order from top to bottom, is:—Germany v. Hungary, France v. Italy, Yugoslavia v. Sweden, Belgium v. India. In the first round of the American zone Australia has been drawn against Mexico, while Japan meets Canada. The United States, being the holder of the trophy, stands out until the challenge round.
